Glutathione

Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant endogenous low-molecular-weight thiol — a tripeptide of Glu-Cys-Gly (CAS 70-18-8) biosynthesized in virtually all mammalian cells. It occupies three distinct biochemical roles: primary cofactor for glutathione peroxidase-driven ROS detoxification, substrate for glutathione S-transferases in phase II xenobiotic metabolism, and ascorbate regenerator through the glutathione-ascorbate redox cycle. In research contexts it is used to experimentally manipulate cellular redox state in oxidative stress models and to characterize thiol-disulfide exchange reactions in protein chemistry. Supplied lyophilized for in vitro research use only.
